Durham Library Sketch

A handwritten history of the chronology of libraries in Durham, NH by Lucien Thompson, a committee member in the formation of the first Durham Public Library and founder of the Durham Post Office.

This sketch of Durham library history is preceded by the March 18, 1893 public statute amendment from the New Hampshire State Library of Concord, NH by State Librarian Arthur R. Kimball. This document is marked in the final section where it states, "Any historical facts regarding the origin of the library, or any details regarding the work accomplished, which can be added to the statistical returns, are solicited," and provides contextual impetus for the writing of this history.
